Paint I used a number of different primers in the tail of my RV-7. I was not impressed with Sherwin-Williams' 988 Self Etching Primer. In rattle-cans, it's expensive, generates lots of overspray, and sticks poorly. A fingernail and no effort will take it off. I will admit to keeping a can on the shelf for shooting the occasional single small part. DuPont's VeriPrime is good stuff. It's easy to use, mixes 1:1, covers well, dries quickly and sticks where you put it. I have finally settled on Aircraft Finishing Systems' Primer Sealer for priming the insides of structures, primarily because it is designed to seal the surface without a top-coat. Being water-based, it's easy to clean up and doesn't require a respirator. The cockpit interior will get VeriPrime, DuPont sanding primer and some form of satin-finish Imron, the exterior will get VeriPrime, sanding primer and gloss Imron. Accents and striping will be done with vinyl. |
