Vertical Stabilizer
Just like the HS, the VS begins with the spar assembly.
Cleco the doubler to the spar channel, then add the hinge brackets. Refer to the plans and tape over the two holes in the
lower hinge bracket that get drilled in assembly with the fuselage. Back-drill the lower hinge brackets and ream all the
remaining holes. Take it apart, marking the hinge brackets so you can put it back where it came from later. Drill
out the optional lightening holes in the doubler, if you choose. Clean out the chips and de-burr the holes and edges.
Put it back together.
Prepare the ribs and
front spar by smoothing the edges, fluting and squaring the flanges. Cleco the ribs to the spars and ream the holes.
  Slip
the skeleton inside the skin and add clecos. Ream all the skin to skeleton holes and take it all apart. De-burr all
the holes.
Refer to the plans and countersink the appropriate holes on the forward side of the doubler. Dimple the ribs and
spars per the plans. Dimple the skins and smooth the edges. Clean, scuff and prime as required / desired.
Cleco the rear spar back together and tape over the holes for the hinge brackets. Rivet the doubler plate to the rear
spar. Rivet the hinge brackets to the spar.
Cleco the ribs to the
front spar and rivet. Cleco the front spar and ribs to the skin. Begin at the center and rivet the skin to the
front spar, working out to the tip first, then from the center to the root. Rivet the skin to the ribs working from the
LE to the TE.
Cleco the rear spar to
the skin and ribs. Rivet the skin and end ribs to the rear spar, then blind rivet the spar to the center rib.
Vertical Stab complete!
It really is that easy. The VS is a piece of cake. You can literally complete the whole thing in a single day.
